Overview
A bold and vibrant campaign for the Ministry of Education celebrating the diversity and spirit of New Zealand's young people. The visual approach combined documentary-style footage with dynamic graphic overlays, kinetic typography, and hand-crafted animation elements. Every frame was layered with energy — text exploding across the screen, illustrations weaving through live-action, colour palettes shifting to match the personality of each featured student. We developed a flexible VFX toolkit that could adapt to dozens of unique stories while maintaining a cohesive visual identity across the entire campaign. The typography alone required custom animation for over 200 individual text elements, each timed to the cadence of the voiceover.

Design System Creation
We built a comprehensive motion design system from scratch — a toolkit of animated elements, colour palettes, type treatments, and transition styles that could be mixed and matched to tell dozens of individual stories. The system was flexible enough to feel unique for each student while maintaining the cohesive energy that tied the campaign together.
Kinetic Typography
Over 200 individual text elements were custom-animated to the rhythm of each student's voice. We developed a typographic language where the weight, scale, colour, and motion of each word reflected its emotional content — whispered words appear gently, passionate declarations explode across the frame. Every letterform was treated as a character in the story.
Illustration Integration
Hand-drawn illustrations were created by local New Zealand artists and brought to life through frame-by-frame animation. These elements weave through the live-action footage, responding to the subjects' movements and energy. The illustrations represent each student's dreams, culture, and personality — drawn in styles that reflect their individual stories.
Colour & Grade
Each segment required a distinct colour identity that reflected the student's personality while remaining cohesive with the overall campaign palette. We developed a dynamic grading approach where the colour temperature, saturation, and contrast shifted in response to the emotional arc of each story, creating a visual rhythm that amplified the narrative impact.
