Overview
A warm and engaging campaign for ANZ Bank designed to demystify KiwiSaver for everyday New Zealanders. We developed a stylised visual language that blended motion graphics with live-action footage, creating a seamless world where financial concepts become tangible and approachable. The work involved extensive 3D illustration, character animation, and careful compositing to integrate graphic elements into real environments. Every transition was designed to feel organic — money growing into trees, coins becoming stepping stones — transforming abstract financial ideas into emotionally resonant visual metaphors that audiences could instantly connect with.

Visual Language Development
We spent three weeks in pre-production developing the visual language — a warm, tactile aesthetic that felt handcrafted rather than clinical. The team explored dozens of illustration styles before landing on a look that balanced simplicity with sophistication, using soft gradients, organic shapes, and a colour palette drawn from the New Zealand landscape.
3D Illustration Pipeline
Every graphic element was built as a 3D asset in Cinema 4D, rendered with Redshift to achieve the soft, diffused lighting that gave the illustrations their distinctive warmth. This approach allowed us to animate complex transitions — coins morphing into houses, numbers blossoming into gardens — with physically plausible motion and lighting consistency.
Live-Action Integration
The real challenge was making stylised 3D elements feel at home in documentary-style live-action footage. We developed a compositing approach that used subtle shadow interaction, ambient occlusion matching, and colour harmonisation to ground every graphic element in the physical environment. The result feels like the graphics genuinely exist in the space, not layered on top.
Animation & Timing
The animation had to convey complex financial concepts in seconds while remaining emotionally engaging. We choreographed each transition to feel like a natural continuation of the story — money doesn't just appear, it grows; savings don't accumulate, they build. Every motion curve was crafted to feel satisfying and optimistic.
